College football coaches outside of the SEC have always had a tough time keeping top prospects from going to one of the elite schools inside that conference. Now they’re stepping up those efforts.
Georgia coach Kirby Smart said Friday he has heard of rival coaches outside of the SEC warning recruits that the conference is too tough and they wouldn’t do well there as a way of trying to convince them to sign.
Kirby Smart also told @finebaum that coaches outside the conference are now recruiting against the SEC. Coaches are telling high school players the SEC is too tough and they’ll get beat up.

Coaches have to try whatever they can to win players over. After 15 SEC players were selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, though, lines like this are going to have a hard time landing.
Smart also has some strong takes on negative recruiting, so he probably doesn’t think this line will work. He’s probably right, too.
