LSU-Florida game postponed due to hurricane, may not be rescheduled
Saturday’s game between LSU and Florida has been postponed due to a major hurricane that is forecast to hit Florida over the weekend, and the SEC showdown may not be rescheduled.
Prior to reaching a decision to postpone the game, the two universities reportedly explored other dates and location options but concluded that there is too much uncertainty over the impact of the storm. Even if the game was moved to Louisiana from Gainesville, there would still be potential travel issues and other concerns.
As Ross Dellenger of The Advocate notes, the Gators and Tigers have different bye weeks this season. That will make it extremely difficult to find another date to make the game up, so it’s possible the two teams won’t end up playing one another in 2016.
Hurricane Matthew was a Category-4 strength hurricane as of Thursday, with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph. It is expected to have devastating impacts on the east coast of Florida and has resulted in many cities and towns having to evacuate their residents.
