Not only did LSU experience a humiliating loss on Saturday, but they paid nearly $1 million for the displeasure of suffering the defeat.
Troy beat LSU 24-21 on Saturday in Baton Rouge to improve to 4-1 on the season, while dropping the Tigers to 3-2. In order to encourage a lesser program such as Troy to come face them and likely lose, LSU has to sweeten the pot — and they did so by paying the Alabama school $985,000. In return, they got a tough game, one in which they trailed the entire way before losing.
The two previous games played between the schools were close, with LSU winning 24-20 in 2004 and 40-31 in 2008. It’s not too surprising the game was close again this time.

The loss snaps LSU’s 49-game home winning streak against non-conference opponents, which dated back to 2000.
