Mark Helfrich has funny response to Phil Knight question

Mark Helfrich had a funny response to a question about Phil Knight potentially looking to spend top dollar on a new head football coach at Oregon.

Speaking at a news conference on Sunday, Heflrich was asked about the report that Knight would be willing to spend “insane money” on a new coach.

At first Helfrich gave a vanilla response, but at the end he cracked a funny joke:

Sorry, Mark, but with a 3-6 record this season, we’re guessing it won’t be you getting that $10 million per season.

Helfrich is in his fourth season as head coach at Oregon. After starting out 24-4 in his first two years — thanks in large part to having Marcus Mariota at quarterback — Helfrich’s gone 9-10 since. That kind of record is enough to get you fired at a school like Oregon, where Knight demands much more.
