Melvin Gordon sets FBS single-game rushing record with 408 yards (Video)
Against UTEP in 1999, LaDainian Tomlinson set a new FBS record by rushing for 406 yards. On Saturday, Tomlinson was knocked down to second place by Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon.
Gordon has been racking up yards at an impressive clip all season, with single-game totals of 253, 259, and 205 already posted. Saturday, against Nebraska, Gordon was on another level. He rushed for 238 in the first half.
Tomlinson’s record was in sight when the second half began. Late in the third quarter, Gordon got loose for a 26-yard run that vaulted him to the top of the list.
Shortly after, the former TCU star congratulated Gordon on surpassing his mark.
That kid @Melvingordon25 bad!! Congrats on breaking the NCAA single game rushing record. #respect

Melvin Gordon finished the game with 408 yards and four touchdowns on just 25 carries. For the season, his jaw-dropping totals are 1,909 yards with 23 touchdowns and a mind-boggling 8.56 yards per carry through 10 games.
He got some recognition from former Badger JJ Watt:
Congratulations @Melvingordon25! In front of every great RB is a great offensive line & fullback. Couldn't be more proud of @DerekWatt34!

And how’s this for some running back tradition at Wisconsin? Ron Dayne has the NCAA career rushing record; Montee Ball has the single-season and career touchdown record; and now Gordon has the single-game rushing record.
