Greg Sharpe, the longtime announcer of Nebraska Cornhuskers football games, has died at the age of 61, the school announced on Saturday.
Sharpe had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 10 months prior to his death on Friday. Sharpe, who was from Kansas, called Kansas State football and basketball games from 1996 to 2002. He called three Nebraska football games in 2007 and then became the Huskers’ football announcer thereafter. He also called baseball games for Nebraska.
“While his passion and energy on the call of Husker football and baseball brought joy to so many for the past 17 seasons, it comforts us to know that his legacy will live on through these same moments that he narrated and through the relationships that he built,” his family’s statement said. “While the public knew him for his booming voice and infectious personality, those closest to him knew him for his loyalty and dedication to them.”

Big Ten Network had produced a cool video of Sharpe prior to his death that highlighted all the support he had received.
Sharpe received plenty of tributes following the news of his death.
Even Nebraska’s governor shared a nice message regarding Sharpe.
