Ohio State announces committee that will investigate Urban Meyer

Urban Meyer

Ohio State on Thursday evening announced the six-person committee that will head the investigation of Urban Meyer.

According to a release from the university, the committee will include three current trustees. Those are Alex Fischer, Janet Porter and Alex Shumate. They will be joined by former Ohio House Speaker Jo Ann Davidson, former acting U.S. Deputy Attorney General Craig Morford and Carter Stewart, former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio.

The group will be tasked with directing the investigative team and being available to provide consultation and advice to assist the full board.

Meyer is being investigated about his knowledge of the domestic assault charges his former wide receivers coach/recruiting coordinator, Zach Smith, was facing. Meyer said last week that he was unaware of 2015 allegations against Smith until news of the allegations was reported the day before.

Ohio State fired Smith last Monday, the same day the allegations of his violence against his now-ex-wife became public. Reporter Brett McMurphy reported on Wednesday that Meyer lied about his knowledge of the allegations.
