The Ohio State Buckeyes will likely be heading into the 2024 season with a new quarterback.
Kyle McCord, who started for the Buckeyes in 2023, announced Monday that he will enter the transfer portal. McCord suggested he was ready to move on from Ohio State and wanted to “explore other opportunities.”

McCord’s likely departure is unexpected, at least publicly, and suggests the Buckeyes have their sights set on someone from the transfer portal. Whether Ryan Day has a specific name in mind at this point is unclear, but it is hard to imagine Ohio State being totally blindsided by McCord’s decision. There is no shortage of highly-rated quarterbacks available in the portal this year, and one would figure the Buckeyes would be a hugely attractive destination for any of them.
Day will certainly want to get this call correct. His recent lack of success against Michigan has some feeling very impatient and is a streak he will want to end as quickly as possible.
