Former Oklahoma Sooners center Gabe Ikard has been to many an Oklahoma City Thunder game. Ikard, who was signed by the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent, is often spotted sitting courtside cheering on Kevin Durant and company. Don’t worry, his girlfriend owns the seats. And just to make sure she wasn’t providing Ikard with any type of improper benefits, the school had the couple fill out some paperwork.
During an interview with WWLS last week, Ikard explained how Sooners officials made him and his girlfriend sign papers confirming that their relationship is a genuine romantic relationship.
“They did some digging and I’m actually compliant official with my girlfriend,” he explained, via Carey Murdock of SoonerScoop.com. “We had to sign a signed affidavit that she was not dating me just because I was a football player.”
Talk about an invasion of privacy.
“They kind of drafted it themselves,” Ikard said of the bizarre paperwork. “I said she just likes big guys, just accept it.”
Ikard is no stranger to the Sooners compliance department being paranoid. Ironically enough, he was one of the players who ate more pasta than he was supposed to at a team banquet, inspiring the school to self report the overeating as a potential violation. Olive Garden later sent the players free food.
“It’s the power of Twitter man. It’s kind of sad but that’s really the truth,” Ikard said of Olive Garden offering to cater his draft party. “I got connected with them during the pastagate thing and I’ve kept a relationship with their social media staff.”
