The Northwestern Wildcats are winless in Big Ten play and 1-7 overall, well on their way to their worst season of coach Pat Fitzgerald’s 14-year tenure. Apparently it doesn’t show when they’re practicing, though.
On Monday, Fitzgerald offered up one of the strangest quotes of the week when he said visitors to practice have asked if they’re sure that the Wildcats aren’t undefeated this season.
Fitz: "We had people come in last week to practice and tell me 'Are you sure you guys aren't undefeated?'"

He continued: "There's obviously a disconnect there (between practice and game execution), and I think it comes down to trust between our players."

Maybe someone did say this, but I’m not sure you mention it in a press conference. The Wildcats have scored just 78 points all season, the lowest mark of any FBS school, and all but one of their losses came by at least two scores. Maybe the defense looks great because the offense is so inept.
Fitzgerald has dropped a few pearls in press conferences this year. Might as well be known for something as long as the team is struggling mightily.
