Rutgers’ quarterback enters transfer portal in surprising move
Rutgers’ starting quarterback from last season is set to enter the transfer portal in what amounts to a surprising move.
Gavin Wimsatt, who started all 13 games for the Scarlet Knights last season, has reportedly entered the transfer portal.
Rutgers QB Gavin Wimsatt has entered the transfer portal, @mzenitz and I have learned for @247Sports.
Wimsatt started every game for the Scarlet Knights last year. One of the highest-rated recruits in program history. https://t.co/n05yEoWWja pic.twitter.com/KE4zr2jE5l

Wimsatt only passed for 1,735 yards, 9 touchdowns and 8 interceptions last season, though he added 497 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground. He led Rutgers to a 7-6 season, including a win over Miami in the Pinstripe Bowl. That marked the Scarlet Knights’ best season since 2014.
Why is Wimsatt leaving? He apparently lost the starting job to Athan Kaliakmanis, who had a strong spring.
Here's our @ESPN story on the changing of the guard in the Rutgers quarterback room, with Athan Kaliakmanis winning the starting job with a strong spring. Kaliakmanis will lead a 7-win team that returns 15 starters. Gavin Wimsatt is in the transfer portal. https://t.co/KNp1iOcr6p

Kaliakmanis transferred from Minnesota, where he had 1,838 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and 9 interceptions last season. Kaliakmanis was the Golden Gophers’ quarterback and helped them to a 6-7 season.
Kaliakmanis has traded one Big Ten school for another and is set to be the starter. Now Wimsatt needs to find a new landing spot.
