Former 5-star QB announces his transfer destination
Cal Poly quarterback Sam Huard, a former 5-star recruit, has decided on his next destination after entering the transfer portal last month.
Huard has committed to play for Utah, according to 247 Sports’ Brandon Huffman.
Huard spoke to Huffman about the move, citing the “unbelievable” football culture at Utah as a big reason behind his decision.
“I loved the environment and the area,” Huard said. “I loved the people too and overall, it just felt like an awesome place for me to take the next step.”
Huard was rated as a top-3 quarterback prospect in the high school class of 2021, per 247 Sports’ rankings. He was sandwiched between No. 2 Caleb Williams and No. 4 Drake Maye, who were both top-3 selections in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Huard went 185/304 for 2,205 yards with 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions for Cal Poly last season. The Mustangs went 3-8 with Huard under center.
Before transferring to Cal Poly in January 2023, Huard spent his first two seasons at Washington. He played in five games and made just one start during his time with the Huskies. Huard went 24/44 with 1 touchdown and 4 interceptions.
Huard joins a Utah quarterback room led by upperclassman Cam Rising, who had missed the entirety of last season recovering from a knee injury.
