Saquon Barkley getting his own day, parade in hometown

Saquon Barkley

Saquon Barkley will be the honored with his own day and a parade in his hometown in Pennsylvania next month.

Barkley went from a high school football star in Pennsylvania to an All-American at Penn State. The standout running back announced shortly after the Fiesta Bowl that he was entering this year’s NFL Draft. Before Barkley turns pro, he will be saluted in his home state.

On March 14, Harrisburg will hold “Saquon Barkley Day.” Less than two weeks later, a parade will be held in Barkley’s hometown of Coplay.

“This whole day belongs to Saquon and his family,” Stephen Burker, a Coplay Borough Council member said, according to The Morning Call. “And it’s a day for the whole community that followed him from his days at Whitehall. Whether you wore a Penn State jersey or not, you always watched him play on Saturday.”

During his three years at Penn State, Barkley became the school’s all-time leader in rushing touchdowns (43) and all-purpose yards (5,538). Barkley, who signed with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, is expected to be the first running back selected during this year’s draft.
