Sherrone Moore to be suspended 2 games

Michigan is expected to suspend head football coach Sherrone Moore for two games in the upcoming season as part of a self-imposed penalty for the Connor Stalions advanced scouting scandal. According to ESPN, Moore is expected to miss Michigan’s games against Central Michigan and Nebraska, which will be the schools third and fourth games of the season.

Though Michigan is being proactive by suspending Moore two games, the NCAA could still decide to impose a more severe penalty.

Moore’s involvement in the matter, and the reason he is subject to the penalty, is because he was found to have deleted a thread of 52 text messages with Stalions. His deletion of the messages was considered by the NCAA to be a Level 2 infraction and can be viewed as an attempt to obstruct the investigation.

The notice of allegations Michigan received in August 2024 cited them for 11 total violations, including six infractions deemed to be Level 1, which is the most serious.

Michigan was the subject of accusations of sign-stealing violations in October 2023. Stalions was said to have been the leader of Michigan’s operations, and he ended up resigning from his position on Michigan’s staff. The Wolverines still won the national championship that season, but head coach Jim Harbaugh left for the Chargers job after the season. Moore took over as Michigan’s head coach and is entering his second season on the job. He previously served as Michigan’s offensive coordinator.
