TCU managed to celebrate an interception like it was a touchdown this week.
During Saturday’s game between TCU and SMU, the Horned Frogs produced an extremely embarrassing moment. In the second quarter at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Tex., TCU quarterback Josh Hoover threw a jump ball into the end zone on a 2nd-and-6 play from the SMU 17-yard line.
Wide receiver Eric McAlister tried to grab the ball, but SMU cornerback Jaelyn Davis-Robinson wrestled it away from him instead for an interception. That resulted in a touchback to the Mustangs instead of a touchdown for the Horned Frogs.
Unfortunately, somebody working props didn’t quite get the memo. TCU famously plays the Frog Horn after every home touchdown in their stadium. After Davis-Robinson’s interception, the horn mistakenly began to play … very loudly … and while SMU players were celebrating the pick.
Take a look at the funny video.

Even SMU Football’s official X account had some fun at TCU’s expense over the embarrassing moment.

On the bright side for TCU, that was as bad as it got for them on Saturday. They went on to defeat SMU by a final of 35-24 to improve to a perfect 3-0 on the year. Hoover also threw for five total touchdowns on the day, including three that went to McAlister.
That said, TCU should probably be on their best behavior whenever SMU comes to town, which is known more commonly as the Iron Skillet rivalry. A couple of years ago, TCU had another extremely humiliating moment while trying to get cute during a game against SMU.
