Tom Herman firmly denies report he was Brett McMurphy’s source
Tom Herman issued a statement on Saturday to firmly deny any involvement in the Ohio State situation.
“It is absolutely untrue. Neither I, nor anybody in my family, has ever communicated with Brett McMurphy about the situation at Ohio State,” Herman said in a statement.
The Texas Longhorns head coach also addressed an allegation that he and his wife funded Courtney Smith’s legal bills.
“In March of 2017, my wife assisted her friend Courtney Smith during a time of financial need. We have not provided any financial assistance since then.”

An Ohio State reporter published a story on Facebook Saturday in which he alleged that Herman had tipped off McMurphy about Zach Smith’s history of abuse against ex-wife Courtney. The reporter alleged that Herman did so as revenge for losing a recruiting battle to Smith and Ohio State.
Herman was a coach under Urban Meyer at Ohio State from 2012-2014. He left to take the Houston head coach job and is now entering his second season as Texas’ head coach.
McMurphy has already refuted the report that Herman was his source.
