Urban Meyer was stuck at sea on cruise ship with Ohio State fans
Urban Meyer and roughly 2,500 other passengers set sail on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship last week to help raise money for cancer research. They were supposed to be back early on Tuesday, but Mother Nature made other plans.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the Ohio State coach and company were circling in the Gulf of Mexico and unable to dock because of dense fog. The ship was in a holding pattern about 20 miles off the coast as the crew waited for the fog to clear, which was expected to happen no earlier than 7 p.m. Tuesday night.
“We are good. No worries,” Meyer said in a text message to Tim May of The Columbus Dispatch. “We raised upward of $2 million for (The Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital).
“However, we are ready to get home.”
Fortunately, the ship got moving well before nightfall. Former Ohio State defensive back Dustin Fox, now a radio host, shared a photo on Instagram that showed the ship approaching a bridge and said the boat was “almost home.”
Has anyone ever heard those horror stories of cruise ships being stuck at sea? Meyer and the gang got off easy.
