Shelley Meyer, the wife of Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer, created a buzz on Monday when she sent some tweets about Colin Kaepernick. She later tried to clarify her stance and apologized for the way her comments were interpreted.
After news surfaced on Sunday that Kaepernick has filed a grievance against the NFL accusing the league’s owners of collusion, Shelley Meyer responded to a news article on Twitter by saying Kaepernick “made his choices.” Meyer also agreed with a fellow Twitter user that she would take Tim Tebow over Kaepernick any day, which led to a lot of backlash.
While some took her remarks to mean she does not care about issues of social injustice, Meyer says she was merely stating that all actions have consequences.

Kaepernick’s adoptive mother Teresa was among those who felt Meyer’s assessment of the quarterback’s situation was ignorant.
Her flip remark speaks volumes on where she stands on civil rights issues.

Unlike Kaepernick’s adoptive mother, the quarterback’s biological mother was one of the first people to criticize him after he took a knee during the national anthem last year.
Kaepernick knew there would be backlash when he decided to kneel, but he probably had no idea it would contribute to him not being able to find a job the following season.
