The fireworks came off before Saturday’s game between the Oklahoma Sooners and the New Mexico Lobos, literally.
As Oklahoma cheerleaders and players rushed onto the field at Memorial Stadium in Norman, Okla., a firework appeared to detach from a Sooners flag.
The still-live firework was propelled by its own spark toward the middle of the field, nearly hitting a cheerleader, who impressively dodged the loose pyrotechnic by jumping over it while maintaining control of the flag.
Here is a video of the rogue firework and the cheerleader avoiding it.

Fortunately, no one seemed to get hurt during that fiery moment on the field, as the Sooners looked to bounce back from a loss and get back to their winning ways.
The No. 24-ranked Sooners would rather see their team embody the fireworks in their attack against the Lobos, a week after suffering a 17-10 loss to the Michigan Wolverines at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich.
In that game, Oklahoma compiled 289 total yards to the Wolverines’ 263, but the Sooners turned the ball over twice and went just 3/14 on third and fourth downs.
The Sooners are in their fifth season under head coach Brent Venables, who’s made Oklahoma bowl-eligible every year since taking the job in Norman.
