Virginia fans did not wait around to celebrate their team’s upset of Florida State on Friday night.
Virginia outlasted Florida State in an absolute thriller that ended in dramatic fashion inside Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Va. The Cavaliers needed one final stop to seal a home victory in double overtime.
With Florida State facing 4th-and-12 at Virginia’s 27, FSU quarterback Tommy Castellanos had his Hail Mary pass picked off in the end zone. The capacity crowd stormed the field within a split second of Castellanos’ interception.

Florida State entered the game ranked 8th in the country and was considered a touchdown favorite over unranked Virginia. The Seminoles won their first three games by an average of 48 points, including a resounding two-score win over Alabama to open the season.
Virginia made Florida State look inferior on Friday night once the game kicked off, with the home team racing out to a 14-0 lead. The Seminoles responded with three unanswered touchdowns to take a 21-14 lead in a topsy-turvy game that saw both squads give up three turnovers apiece.
Both sides traded TDs the rest of the way, with Virginia holding on late to seal the 46-38 upset.
