Wake Forest RB stiffed by Bobby Petrino gets last laugh with big game
Wake Forest’s 56-35 win over Louisville on Saturday might have been a little bit more meaningful for Demon Deacons running back Matt Colburn.
Back in 2014, Colburn signed a letter of intent with Petrino’s Cardinals. In February 2015, Petrino pulled his scholarship offer two days before signing day, needing to reallocate it. He instead offered Colburn the opportunity to greyshirt. The running back said no and ultimately walked on at Wake Forest.
On Saturday, he got his shot at Petrino and torched him.
Matt Colburn had his scholarship taken away by Bobby Petrino 2 days before signing day. Petrino wanted to greyshirt him. Colburn would later walk on at Wake Forest. Today, he rushed for a career-high 243 yds w 3 TDs in a 56-35 win over Petrino and Louisville.

The Colburn fiasco was a big deal at the time, and the running back’s high school actually banned Petrino from recruiting at his school as a result of it. You can bet it was on Colburn’s mind this week.
