Marathon winner Scott Downard disqualified because he didn’t register
Friendly reminder: If you plan on spending three hours of your life running a marathon, make sure you register for the race first. That’s something one runner forgot to do Sunday and it cost him.
Scott Downard won the Cowtown Marathon by more than 6 minutes over the second-place finisher. But Downard was using the number of a friend who couldn’t make the race, so he was disqualified. Downard acknowledged without incident that he hadn’t registered.
After Downard was disqualified, runner-up Kolin Styles was named the winner with a time of 2:37:53 and he receives a free trip to the Boston or New York marathon. Styles’ brother Koby won the 50K ultramarathon race.
We’ve heard of some pretty crappy ways to lose a race, and this is up there. It’s not quite as bad as the guy who lost because he took a wrong turn, but it’s bad.
