Here we go again with the politics and sports. For some reason, folks love to mix these two realms together. On Tuesday, Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich lost his seat to a fellow democrat named Marcy Kaptur. According to CNN, the two were once good friends before a nasty campaign battle left their relationship tarnished. If you were representing Cleveland and someone compared you to LeBron James, you probably wouldn’t cal them a friend either.
When it became clear Kucinich could lose his seat, he went to Washington State to explore running there.
For that, Kaptur attacked Kucinich, the former mayor of Cleveland, in the harshest terms for Cleveland voters. She compared him in a radio ad to once favorite son basketball player Lebron James – who bolted last year for Miami.
Now that’s hitting below the belt. The only problem with Kaptur’s comparison is that everyone in Cleveland wanted LeBron to stay. In fact, they pleaded for him to stay and were devastated when he left. If Kucinich explored running in another state after it was obvious that he was no longer wanted in Ohio, the two situations are nothing alike. While it was a low blow from Kaptur, it probably helped her win the election. Whether the comparison makes sense or not, having your name thrown into the same sentence with LeBron James’ can be the kiss of death in Ohio.
