A video of a man supposedly jumping off a cliff in Australia and landing next to a great white shark is going viral. It has already amassed over 1 million views on YouTube. While the GoPro footage is pretty impressive, it appears to be fake.
Could something like this happen? I don’t see why not, but there is one major glitch in the video. If you pay close attention at around the 58-second mark, the shark appears on the right side of the screen before disappearing and reappearing on the left. Either there was some sort of weird reflective thing going on with the camera, or the creators failed to see the error.
Also, if you watch the start of the video before the guy jumps, it doesn’t look like you can see anything below the surface of the water. His friends immediately start yelling “shark!” when he surfaces after his jump, but I doubt they would actually be able to see the shark from where they were standing.
