OJ Simpson crime scene photos to be blurred out on ESPN

OJ Simpson

The OJ Simpson crime scene photos from where the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman took place are so gruesome that ESPN has decided to have some special handling of them in their 30 for 30 documentary.

ESPN has been airing its “OJ: Made in America” documentary in five separate parts, beginning with the first part which aired on ABC last weekend. Part 4 will air on Friday and part 5 on Saturday.

Some images of the murder scene were shown during part 3 of the documentary, but even more gruesome ones will be shown in part 4.

Here’s a tame look at one of the photos:

Other crime scene photos are extremely graphic, showing a bloody and mutilated Nicole Brown Simpson. Her throat is slashed so badly she was nearly decapitated.

ESPN decided to show the photos in Part 4 and online, but they will blur them for future airings:

“There are several graphic crime scene photos that will be shown during Part 4 of “O.J.: Made in America” that the director and producers of the film feel are key to the powerful narrative of the documentary. These will not be altered in the initial television premiere, nor will they be altered in the version of the film that will be available on demand to viewers online or via cable VOD services. However, since subsequent re-airs will take place at various times, those photos will be blurred in future re-airs.”

That’s probably the right call, which takes into account the sensitivity of the photos and balances them with the importance of telling the story.
