Scott Jones and Alex Thomas are the Vancouver Riot Kissing Couple
This incredibly bizarre photo of a couple kissing in the streets of Vancouver while folks rioted in the city had the internet buzzing all day Thursday:
The sheer juxtaposition of the actions was mind boggling; how in the middle of all the emotionally-charged anger and violence was such a serene, loving act taking place? There was an instantaneous thirst for information about the photo, and some people even wondered if it was real.
Much like any other photo that became a worldwide internet meme, the stars of the picture have been identified. An Australian woman in Perth told Nine MSN that the man in the picture is her son. From their site via FOX Sports:
Megan Jones of Perth told Australian news website Ninemsn that the man in question was her son, 29-year-old Scott Jones, who has been living and working in the Canadian city for six months.
“It is something he would do — that’s our boy,” she said. “He has always lived in his own world. He’s special like that. He doesn’t always connect with what [is] going on around him. I knew it was him because he doesn’t have a lot of clothes with him, and he always puts on the same thing.”
The stunning act was apparently a good one for Jones who is an aspiring stand-up comic, according to his sister. The couple has only been dating for a short while, so that may help explain the honeymoon-like passion. Frankly, I don’t care what inspired it because it gave the internet a great photo for a day. We’ll take it.
