The San Francisco 49ers took a chance by signing oft-injured Jason Verrett this offseason, and true to form, Verrett is injured again.
The 28-year-old cornerback is out for the preseason, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said Thursday. Verrett has an ankle injury that seems to be somewhat significant.
Kyle Shanahan said Jason Verrett is on the same timeline as Nick Bosa — he will miss the entire preseason and be reevaluated at that point. It’s not a minor ankle injury.

Verrett was a first-round pick by the Chargers in 2014 and made the Pro Bowl in 2015. However, he only played in six games as a rookie, four games in 2016, one game in 2017, and he missed all of last season due to an Achilles injury. Injuries are unfortunately the norm for him.
The Niners invested $3.6 million in Verrett and will hope he will be ready to play at some point early in the season, if not by Week 1.
