49ers fear ACL tear for Jimmy Garoppolo
The San Francisco 49ers are expecting the worst possible news on quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
49ers coach Kyle Shanahan admitted after Sunday’s game that the team fears Garoppolo tore his ACL, which would be a season-ending injury.
Kyle Shanahan confirms they’re fearing an ACL for Jimmy Garoppolo. Awful news. MRI to confirm tomorrow.

As Shanahan notes, an MRI will be required for confirmation, but the early signs look very bad. The injury looked to be of the non-contact variety, increasing the likelihood or major ligament damage or a tear. Early noise from the 49ers sideline indicated that they feared a serious injury.

Obviously, as Carson Wentz is proving, an ACL tear isn’t always the end of the world, but it would certainly mean the end of Garoppolo’s 2018 and could also have an impact on his career trajectory depending on the severity.
