The 49ers were screwed in their game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday when a roughing the passer penalty was called on a critical third down in the fourth quarter.
The Seahawks had a 3rd-and-5 at the 15 and the 49ers sent pressure up the middle. Both Nick Moody and Antoine Bethea got to Russell Wilson and drilled him in the chest. Wilson’s pass went incomplete, which should have led to a field goal to make it 13-7 and keep it as a one-possession game. Instead, they got some yards and a new set of downs and scored a touchdown to make it 17-7.
Whether it was this roughing the passer penalty or last year’s call against Ahmad Brooks on Drew Brees, the Niners keep getting hurt by controversial penalty calls.
FOX rules expert Mike Pereira later came on the telecast and said he agree with Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, who both thought it was a bad call.
