AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith both unhappy with Eagles’ offense

The Philadelphia Eagles appear to have two unhappy wide receivers who want a more significant role in the team’s offense.

Both AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith are frustrated with Philadelphia’s offense, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic. The team’s run-heavy system has deprived both Brown and Smith of red zone opportunities, and both are displeased with it.

Russini notes that, for now, Smith has kept his frustrations private. Brown has not been nearly as quiet when it comes to his own displeasure. Brown’s frustration is more about the quality of targets and the situations in which he is getting them.

Brown has 28 targets through four games so far this season, with 14 catches for 151 yards and a touchdown. Smith’s role has been even more limited, with only 20 targets, though he has caught 17 of them for 158 yards and a touchdown.

Russini did note that head coach Nick Sirianni and GM Howie Roseman are both aware of Brown’s frustrations and have met with them to try and address them. Brown issued something of an apology earlier this week after his recent social media activity became a distraction.

It is unclear what the Eagles can or will do to address the situation. They are 4-0, and while their offense may be boring to some, it is getting results. The team continues to downplay the situation for now, but things could start to get messy if the team’s passing game does not start to pick up in the next few weeks.
