Andy Reid ices kicker and it backfires in loss to Titans

Does icing the kicker actually work? The practice is controversial and the evidence is uncertain, but for Andy Reid, icing Titans kicker Ryan Succop certainly backfired on Sunday.

The Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Tennessee Titans 19-17 on Sunday after Succop made a 53-yard field goal as time expired. The funny thing is Succop actually missed his first kick — it came up well short — but he was spared as Reid had called a timeout.

On his next attempt, Succop, a former Chiefs kicker, put it through the uprights to give Tennessee the surprising victory.

Titans kicker Ryan Succop just told me on the field that kick in this weather was way out of his range. He has no idea how he made it.

KC actually got out to a 14-0 start in the game and was up 17-7 in the fourth quarter, but they were outplayed in the final quarter and lost the game. Reid will probably be kicking himself for giving Succop a do-over and losing.
