Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson will be sidelined for at least four games after the team placed him on injured reserve, but he could reportedly be out much longer than that.
Richardson suffered an injury to his throwing shoulder during Sunday’s win over the Tennessee Titans. He has since been diagnosed with a Grade 3 AC joint sprain and placed on IR, which will make him ineligible to practice until Week 10.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Richardson might be out for closer to two months. It has not yet been determined if the rookie needs surgery.

Colts’ QB Anthony Richardson is now expected to miss four to eight weeks, depending on his rehab and whether or not he still would need surgery on his right shoulder, per source. By placing him on IR today, the Colts are giving him time so nothing can, or has to be, rushed.

Richardson landed hard on his right shoulder when he was tackled on a designed run play in the first half of the Colts’ 23-16 win over Tennessee. Gardner Minshew took over and will be Indy’s starting quarterback for the foreseeable future.
The injury was one of several that Richardson has suffered this season. He has shown flashes of serious playmaking ability, but the former Florida star needs to work on protecting himself.
The Colts are 3-2 heading into Week 6. Minshew has plenty of starting experience, so they are hoping he can keep them in the playoff hunt for as long as Richardson is out.
