Watch: Bears ruthlessly booed by home fans over red zone struggles

Matt Nagy

The Chicago Bears were not able to sort out their offensive issues during the first half of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers, and fans wasted no time showing the home team how disgusted they are with the struggles.

The Bears failed to score a touchdown in the first half despite making five trips into the red zone. They instead wound up with three field goals and took a 9-7 lead into the half, but that didn’t stop fans at Soldier Field from booing them on their way to the locker room.

Chicago’s final drive of the half was particularly disappointing. A pass interference penalty in the end zone placed the ball at the 1-yard line with 29 seconds left. Mitchell Trubisky then threw an incompletion on 1st down and a rushing attempt was stopped short on 2nd down. Since the Bears had no timeouts left, they had to quickly spike the ball and settle for yet another field goal.

Bears coach Matt Nagy supposedly went out of his way to hold himself accountable for the team’s offensive inefficiencies leading up to Sunday’s game, but it didn’t translate to success in the first half. However, Chicago did come out of the locker room and put together a touchdown drive to start the third quarter, so perhaps the booing served as motivation.
