Bengals reportedly ‘highly unlikely’ to trade AJ Green

AJ Green

AJ Green is entering the final year of his contract with a Cincinnati Bengals team that has not been a contender in several years, and some have wondered if it would make sense for the two sides to part ways. It would be a surprise if that actually happened, however.

The New York Jets are one of many teams that would be interested in Green if the Bengals entertained offers for him, but Connor Hughes of The Athletic was told by a source that it is “highly, highly unlikely” that Green will be moved. The 30-year-old is scheduled to become a free agent after making $15 million in 2019, but Bengals owner Mike Brown would like him to retire with the franchise. That means an extension is a lot more likely than a trade.

Green played in just nine games last season before being placed on IR with a foot injury, but he is still one of the more reliable receivers in the NFL. He has eclipsed the 1,000-yard receiving mark in six of his eight seasons and had missed just nine games total in his career heading into last year.

While Green has had some disputes with ownership during his time in Cincinnati, he said last year that he wants to spend his entire career there. There’s a good chance that happens.
