Bill Belichick hints he would be open to 1 major change with Patriots
Bill Belichick met with the media on Monday morning for his season-ending press conference, and his comments gave many people the impression that he would like to remain with the New England Patriots.
As expected, Belichick did not directly respond to any questions about his future. He only noted that he is “under contract” for 2024 and said he expects to have a “series of meetings” with Patriots owner Robert Kraft.
One thing that did stand out from the press conference was what Belichick said when a reporter asked if he would be willing to relinquish personnel control. The 71-year-old indicated he is open to it.
“Look, I’m for whatever collectively we decide as an organization is the best thing to help our football team,” Belichick said. “I have multiple roles in that and I’ve relied on a lot of people to help me in those responsibilities. Somebody’s gotta have the final say. I rely on a lot of other people to help. However that process is, I’m only part of it.”

There were numerous elements to that response that were noteworthy. The most obvious is that Belichick sounds like he is open to giving up final say over roster decisions. If he is willing to do that, it would stand to reason that he wants to continue to coach the Patriots next season. The question is whether Kraft wants Belichick back.
It was also interesting that Belichick said he is “only part of” the process that goes into a building a team. While that is obviously true, some felt that was his way of not taking full responsibility for assembling a 4-13 team, even though he has final say over the roster.
In many ways, Belichick’s press conference seemed like business as usual. That is a sign that no decision has been made about his future in New England, though one NFL insider thinks there is a team to watch if Belichick ultimately leaves.
