Mike Florio names 1 team to watch for Bill Belichick
Bill Belichick’s time as the head coach of the New England Patriots is expected to come to an end now that the team’s season has ended. The Patriots went 4-13 this season, which marks their worst record since Belichick took over as head coach in 2000. This marks New England’s third losing season in four years since pushing Tom Brady out the door.
If and when the Patriots move on from Belichick, an interesting team could be interested in hiring the head coach.
While appearing on the halftime show for “Sunday Night Football,” NBC’s Mike Florio said that Belichick is not expected to be back as the Patriots’ head coach, and it’s just a matter of whether the two sides “part ways” or if the longtime coach is fired. Florio also named the Washington Commanders as a team to watch for Belichick.
The Commanders just finished their worst season in their four years under Ron Rivera and went 4-13. Rivera is expected to be fired.
The Commanders have a new ownership group and are a more desirable team to work for now that Daniel Snyder no longer owns the franchise. The new ownership group may feel it’s time for a coaching change and want to bring in a person of their choice.
Interestingly, Florio said that a trade of Belichick is not going to happen. Florio also said that a team that has a disappointing postseason performance could be intrigued by potentially hiring the 71-year-old coach.
Belichick has won six Super Bowls as a head coach. Despite his overall excellence with the Patriots, the last few seasons have shown that even he can’t win without good quarterback play.
