Bill Belichick offers effusive praise for retiring fullback James Develin
Bill Belichick is not known as an emotional guy. and he does not offer praise very freely. That makes his statement about retiring fullback James Develin all the more noteworthy.
Develin, a veteran fullback, retired Monday after a seven-year NFL career, all with New England. He blamed complications from a neck injury that cost him most of the 2019 season.
In response, Belichick issued a statement offering very high praise for Develin, calling the fullback “one of the most appreciated and respected players we have ever had.”

Belichick’s publicly effusive praise is rare. Tom Brady got it after he left. For Develin to get a similar treatment illustrates just how much the Patriots valued him.
