Bills GM has hesitations about Marcell Dareus

Marcell Dareus

The Buffalo Bills are exercising caution with their expectations for Marcell Dareus.

Dareus was sent home from the team’s preseason game last weekend due to a violation of team rules. New team GM Brandon Beane specifically said that the team had bigger expectations for Dareus given the size of his contract.

Dareus said all the right things afterwards when he talked to the media, telling them he took full responsibility for what happened.

It wouldn’t be accurate to say that Beane isn’t buying Dareus’ words yet, but he certainly wants to see more actions from the defensive lineman.

Asked whether Dareus is “on board” with the team’s rules/aims, Beane answered, “I don’t know,” on WKBW-TV’s pregame coverage, via AL.com.

“Time will tell,” Beane said. “It was disappointing, as I said, after that game. He was contrite yesterday and said the right things. Actions speak louder than words. Time will tell. Hopefully, he is. We hope he’ll play to his potential. We know what kind of player he can be. We hope to see that on the field.”

The team has not said what Dareus did wrong, but a report said he missed the team bus to their preseason game last weekend. The two-time Pro Bowler has five years remaining on his contract, which calls for him to be paid over $97 million.
