Brandon Marshall allegedly hit woman at club, possibly by accident

When the Dolphins traded Brandon Marshall to the Bears for two third-round picks, many people figured they moved him because they were trying to make their roster more attractive to free agent quarterback Peyton Manning. Now we’re learning it may have been for a different reason.

According to a police report obtained by the New York Post, Marshall is accused of hitting a woman at a club in New York early Sunday morning. The Post says Marshall was celebrating a woman’s birthday party and got into a fight with another athlete. The two were allegedly kicked out of the club, and the woman, birthday girl Christin Myles, says she was punched in the eye by Marshall. It’s unclear if Marshall’s alleged punch was intended for Myles.

Marshall’s attorney is giving a completely different account of the facts. Here’s the attorney’s statement, as shared by Jay Glazer:

“On March 12,2012 Brandon Marshall was the key note speaker at a charitable event in New York. After the event was over he, his wife and close friends attended a function at a local club.

While at the function a fight broke out NOT involving Mr. Marshall or his friends. While attempting to leave to avoid the melee Mrs. Marshall was struck in the face by a thrown bottle. She suffered serious injury.

While attempting to leave and take his wife to the hospital, the mayhem continued outside. Finally Mr. Marshall was able to take his wife to the hospital where she was treated for serious injuries.

Mr. Marshall is hoping to assist authorities in regards to this matter.”

The police report says a bouncer told the birthday girl that Marshall was in a fight with another athlete. The birthday girl also says she was punched in the eye by Marshall. Marshall’s attorney says his client was not involved in a fight, but that Marshall’s wife was hit by a bottle. That is a huge difference in terms of accounting for the facts, so somebody surely is lying. Given Marshall’s vast history of alleged domestic violence, and his wife’s criminal past, most people won’t give them the benefit of the doubt.

Marshall could wind up meeting with the commissioner’s office about the incident and possibly face suspension. Worst of all, the Bears may not have known about the incident when they acquired him.
