Brett Favre responds to $16 million lawsuit from investor in failed company

Brett Favre HOF speech

Brett Favre is one of the people named in a lawsuit against a failed social media company that he was a pitch man for as recently as two or three years ago, but the Hall of Famer believes he bears no responsibility for any investing deals gone bad.

The Blast reported back in January that Favre and the executives from Sqor Sports are being sued by a company called Callais Capital Management. The company claims it invested $16 million into Sqor Sports after being pitched with a series of “negligently and/or fraudulently misrepresented” ideas. According to more recent court documents obtained by the gossip publication, Favre and other defendants say they were just pitch men who should not be held accountable for anything that may have been said to convince CCM to invest.

According to court documents filed recently and obtained by The Blast, the defendants (including Favre) claim they cannot be held liable for “statements that amount to puffery – generalized, positive statements about the company’s competitive strengths, experienced management, and future prospects. …

… As for Favre, he claims that he is only referenced in the original lawsuit as “a featured athlete for Sqor and participated in promotional efforts through Sqor.” He claims that CCM alleges no facts showing that Favre had any control over any of the statements made by Sqor “or that he actually participated in any of the alleged misrepresentations.”

Sqor was intended to be a social media platform that would provide athletes with an opportunity to profit from their brands, but it never took off. It is no longer available for download as an app and social media sites for the company have not been updated.
