Brett Favre weighs on in the Tom Brady retirement debate

Brett Favre HOF speech

Brett Favre knows more than most about how difficult it can be to decide when to retire from playing the sport you love, but the Hall of Famer does not feel Tom Brady needs to be thinking about that just yet.

In an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio Monday, Favre was asked how much longer he thinks Brady can continue to play in the NFL. With the way Brady has performed this season, Favre doesn’t see the end in sight.

“It’d be hard for Tom to walk away because he’s playing at such a high level,” the Green Bay Packers legend said. “Really, nothing has changed with the dynamics of that team. That’s important, too — same head coach, same offensive coordinator. There’s new guys that come and go around him, but in a lot of ways things have remained the same.”

One of the reasons the Patriots have been so successful and are going to their ninth Super Bowl with Brady is consistency, mostly with their owner, coach and quarterback. Favre believes that has helped place Brady in a unique situation.

“As you get older, you kind of get stuck in your ways or the ways that you’re used to. You don’t want that to change,” he said. “I think that’s important too that Tom has that consistency along with how well he plays on the field.”

Favre, of course, come out of retirement multiple times, and he has poked fun at himself over it. He clearly just didn’t know when to give up football, but Brady reaffirmed once again this week that he feels nowhere close to that point. While he may not be as sharp as he was a few years ago, he’s certainly better than most NFL quarterbacks. There’s no reason to think this year’s Super Bowl is the end of the road for Brady.
