New York Giants pass rusher Brian Burns addressed a postgame video that some took as him criticizing defensive coordinator Shane Bowen following the team’s 33-32 loss to the Denver Broncos.

Video from Sunday showed Burns angrily leaving the field after the Giants allowed 33 points in the fourth quarter to blow a 19-point lead. At one point, Burns could be heard angrily yelling that the Giants had dropped eight into coverage on the Broncos’ final drive, which some viewed as a criticism of Bowen’s playcalls.

Burns on Tuesday addressed the video on X. He said he wasn’t mad at Bowen or the call, and clarified that his remark was meant to convey anger that the Broncos had gotten into field goal range despite the Giants dropping eight.

People took that tunnel video all outta context.. I wasn’t mad at Shane nor the call.. 🤦🏾‍♂️

Regardless of Burns’ clarification, the outcome piled more pressure on Bowen, who has faced growing criticism this season. The second-year defensive coordinator has led a defense that is 23rd in the league in points against and has lost games by scores of 40-37 and 33-32. Some have suggested that Bowen might be on the hot seat as a potential fall guy with the Giants at 2-5.

It’s hard to blame Burns or anyone else for a frustrated reaction to such a terrible loss, since he was far from alone in being devastated. The veteran knows better than to blast his defensive coordinator in a public setting, though.
