Tommy DeVito led the New York Giants to an upset win on Monday night, but head coach Brian Daboll is not quite ready to compare his quarterback to the most famous “Tom” in sports history.
Daboll was an assistant coach with the New England Patriots when Tom Brady took over as the team’s starting quarterback in 2000. With DeVito having led the Giants to three consecutive wins, a reporter on Tuesday started comparing New York’s current situation to when the legend of Brady was born.
Daboll was not having it.

Brian Daboll was asked today about being on staff in New England when they made Tom Brady the 199th pick in the 2000 draft. He cut off the reporter respectfully.
"We're four games in." #DeVito #Giants

“We’re four games in,” Daboll said.
DeVito finished 17/21 for 158 yards and a touchdown in New York’s 24-22 win over the Packers. He also rushed for 71 yards on 10 attempts. The undrafted free agent out of Illinois now has 5 touchdown passes and 0 interceptions over the past three games, all of which the Giants won.
Of course, Brady led the Patriots to a Super Bowl win the first season he became their starter. He then won five more in New England and added another with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Giants are 5-8 and trying to salvage a decent season after a disastrous start. That is just one reason the situations are not comparable.
DeVito might not even be the Giants’ starter next season, so comparing him to Brady is just silly at this point. Daboll understands that as much as anyone.
