Cam Newton is hoping a minor procedure will help his injured shoulder.
The Carolina Panthers released a statement on Thursday saying that their quarterback underwent arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder.
“The procedure was successfully performed by Panthers team physician Dr. Pat Connor. Newton’s rehabilitation process will begin immediately,” the team said in a statement.
The Panthers’ season started off promising at 6-2, but then they lost seven in a row before winning their final game to finish 7-9. Newton’s shoulder began bothering him, which led him to miss practices during the week and play poorly in games. His arm strength was a clear issue, and he even had to be replaced on a Hail Mary. Newton eventually sat out the team’s final two games.
Newton, who is under contract through 2020, should be ready well in advance of training camp.
