Case Keenum’s makeshift training regimen amid the coronavirus pandemic has him feeling like a meme.
During a conference call Wednesday, the new Cleveland Browns quarterback joked that he was training like Uncle Rico, the famous character from the cult comedy classic “Napoleon Dynamite.”
“Is that the guy that set up the video camera out by his camper and threw the football around in this backyard?” he said, per Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot. “If you haven’t seen it, you need to go check out the video clip. I feel like Uncle Rico at times in my backyard doing drops and throwing the ball by myself. I definitely haven’t thrown as much this offseason as I normally have.

“I know everybody is on their own trying to do their best to get ready and stay in shape,” the 32-year-old signal caller added. “I’m about to go do a little workout with my wife here in our pool. We’re going to do a little pool aerobics. It should be fun. She’ll be excited. We’re just hanging out here, changing diapers and enjoying some family time. We will cross the rest of the bridges when we get there.”
Keenum, who is far from the only Uncle Rico fan in the NFL, just signed a three-year deal with the Browns. He had just a 1-7 record as a starter with the Washington Redskins last season and also battled some injuries, so he probably has a bit more work to do to get ready for the 2020 campaign.
The worldwide shelter-in-place orders have affected those from all walks of life, including professional athletes trying to stay in shape. We recently heard another mention how he felt like Rocky Balboa with his unorthodox training.
