Chad Johnson signs with CFL’s Montreal Alouettes

Chad-Johnson-Alouettes

Chad Johnson is set to continue his football career next year, but those of us who live in the United States will not be watching him play on TV. The former NFL wide receiver officially signed a contract with the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes on Thursday.

Alouettes general manager Jim Popp said over the weekend that Johnson was scheduled to work out with the team in Vero Beach, Fla. earlier this week. Apparently Popp and the Alouettes liked what they saw.

Johnson is 36 and has not caught a pass in a live game since he was with the New England Patriots in 2011. He finished with just 15 catches for 276 yards that season and has had nothing but off-the-field problems since.

Johnson is hoping his post-NFL career turns out better than his buddy Terrell Owens’ did. While it would be understandable if you forgot, TO spent some time with the Indoor Football League’s Allen Wranglers back in 2012 and they ended up buying out his contract and ownership stake in the team for $50. He later demanded money from the team and threatened legal action.

Best of luck, Chad.
