The Los Angeles Chargers have become the first NFL team to have a major brush with the coronavirus.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, one Chargers employee has tested positive for COVID-19. Two other members of the organization have shown symptoms consistent with the virus, but have not yet been formally diagnosed.
While the team did not name the employees, they did rule out owner Dean Spanos, general manager Tom Telesco, and head coach Anthony Lynn.
The individual was diagnosed roughly two weeks after team facilities shut down and all but essential staff were sent home. All members of the organization who may have been exposed have self-quarantined.
The individual who tested positive is expected to make a full recovery, according to a team spokesperson.
While it sounds like everyone will pull through this okay, this is exactly why team facilities are shut down and the NFL Draft will look very different this year. Here’s hoping for a full recovery for everyone afflicted.
