Jared Goff might be pleased about what the Detroit Lions do with their offensive coordinator vacancy.
Atlanta Falcons OC Zac Robinson is flying to Detroit this week to interview for the same position with the Lions, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported on Wednesday. Rapoport does note though that Robinson is also a strong candidate for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ OC job.
Robinson, 39, has been the offensive coordinator of the Falcons for the last two seasons. He has very strong history too with the Lions quarterback Goff dating back to their time together on the Los Angeles Rams.
With the Rams from 2019-23, Robinson served as assistant quarterbacks coach and assistant wide receivers coach before eventually being promoted to pass game coordinator and primary quarterbacks coach. That overlapped with Goff’s time in Los Angeles for multiple seasons.
Meanwhile, the Lions are looking for a new OC after firing John Morton amid a 2025 campaign in which they went just 9-8 and missed the playoffs. Other than Robinson, Detroit is said to be eyeing a much bigger-name candidate for the position as well.
Under Robinson this season, the Falcons finished 14th in the NFL in total offense (compared to the Lions’ fifth-place finish in the same metric). But given Robinson’s history with Goff, it sounds like he is very much worth a look here.
