Younghoe Koo became one of the best stories of the offseason when the rookie beat out Josh Lambo to win the Los Angeles Chargers’ kicking job, but things did not go as he hoped they would.
On Thursday, the Chargers announced that they have waived Koo and signed Nick Novak, who was previously with the team from 2011-2014.
Coach Lynn: "We feel like Nick (Novak) was the best choice for our team. Nick has been an accurate kicker for a long time."

Koo made only 3-of-6 field goals through the Chargers’ first four games, converting just 1-of-4 from 40-plus yards. The former Georgia Southern kicker only moved to the United States when he was in sixth grade, and he said he didn’t even know what football was when he first arrived in America. Koo also gained some notoriety for starring in a cool trick shot video.
Novak was with the Houston Texans last season. The 36-year-old made 101-of-117 kicks during his four seasons with the Chargers, making him the most accurate kicker in franchise history.
