There remains a glimmer of hope for the Kansas City Chiefs regarding injured wide receiver Rashee Rice.

Rice suffered a serious knee injury during the Chiefs’ Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. The second-year pro was carted off the field after a freak collision with quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The initial fear was that Rice had suffered a season-ending knee injury. While the Chiefs have shelved their top wideout for now, the team is reportedly holding out hope that Rice could return this season.

The Chiefs are still awaiting a final determination on the extent of Rice’s injury, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Doctors are expected to have a better idea of Rice’s potential timetable for a return on Monday when the 24-year-old undergoes a knee procedure.

Per the report, there’s buzz that Rice could return this season after a 6-8 week stint on the sidelines.

The Rice update is welcome news for Chiefs fans, who are still reeling from the team losing another top receiver to injury earlier this season.

Rice has been the Chiefs’ most vital receiver this season by a wide margin. Through four games, he leads the team in targets (29), receptions (24) and receiving yards (288). Rice also has 15 first downs gained, which is more than double any other Chief.
